Pool walls, monitored for movement

A cracked, leaking pool in a Brisbane residential tower, 3D laser scanned from the same permanent control on every visit, so engineers can see if the walls are moving.

The brief & scope

A cracked pool. Are the walls still moving?

The pool in a residential tower had developed a leak and cracking. The engineers wanted to check the verticality of the pool walls and keep watching them for movement over time.

  • Wall verticality
  • Permanent survey control
  • Ongoing repeat visits

The challenge

Every visit has to line up with the first one.

Monitoring only works if each scan sits in exactly the same frame. We installed five permanent control marks around the pool and register every visit to them.

Each new scan is then compared with the first visit, wall by wall, and the deviations shown on a colour-coded map the engineers can read at a glance.

Deliverables

What the client got

.pdf
Deviation maps
Colour-coded drawings of every pool wall, compared with the first visit.
.dwg
AutoCAD 2D drawings
The same wall views in CAD, ready for the engineers to mark up.
.rcp
Registered point cloud
3D scans from every visit, aligned on the same control.
The result

Stable walls, still under watch.

Comparisons with the first visit show the pool walls are stable. At the engineers' request, monitoring continues with ongoing visits from the same permanent control.
